ROUTEMASTER 2012

Designed to both reference the spirit of the iconic original whilst meeting the needs of 21st century commuters, the RouteMaster 2012aims to optimize the convenience and desirability of public transit. Powered primarily by an on-board battery and ultra-capacitors charged at each hub, the RouteMaster 2012 emits no exhaust.

It integrates with Bikeshare by communicating with transit hubs to properly disperse bike modules, according to demand, throughout the city. While passengers board the bus, the small pneumatic motor powers arms that load and unload bike modules from the hub to the side of the bus. This motor also powers the retractable wheelchair ramp.

Specialized interior zones with unique seating solutions address the varied needs of passengers. Space directly across from the entrances and flat floors facilitate the ingress/ egress of wheelchair assisted passengers. Compact, ergonomically correct lean seats provide a safer location for short-stop and otherwise standing passengers downstairs, while long-distance travelers and tourists can enjoy London from the panoramic second floor.

Modular construction allows for short and longer versions of the bus, while expansive side glazing doubles as digital billboards that promote London culture through public service ads.

Minding The Gap

Video: My thesis project, ‘Minding the Gap’ is a multi-modal transit system designed for Transport for London that integrates an electric bike-share, smart bus hub network and a multi-tasking re-designed RouteMaster bus to increase both the efficiency and desirability of London’s iconic public transit.

FLOATING HOME

A pre-fab, autonomous floating home designed to address the housing needs of communities affected by rising sea levels. Partially constructed, partially grown, the house is capable of producing and regulating its own power and water supply. Recyclable modular materials designed for dis-assembly.

VESPA BARCHETTA INTERIOR

Chi Vespa Mangia le Mele! The Vespa Barchetta combines the romance and practicality of the iconic scooter with a package more to scale with today’s metropolis.

Interior configuration encourages the human touch between passengers, while articulated storage bins ensure that your groceries don’t mix with your gym clothes.

Precious Cargo

Solar-impregnated canopy allows rider 360 degree visibility. It also protects occupants from the elements whilst allowing them to enjoy an open-air feeling of freedom.

A backrest-mounted curtain airbag secures passengers in the event of a collision.

Articulated, saddlebag-inspired exterior and interior storage compartments allow the user to organize cargo in tune with her or his individual needs. Groceries and gym clothes never have to mix again, and a handbags remain within easy reach.

These compartments can be safely accessed from the sidewalk, eliminating the problem of loading cargo in a parallel parking situation.

In addition, these compartments enhance side impact protection.

The steering module derives inspiration from the flying wasp, or “Vespa” in Italian.

The design blends the character of a classic scooter with modern fly-by wire technology.

Free from mechanical linkages, the module’s spherical base allows for “orbital steering:” The module adapts to the driver’s personal driving style, allowing for a more intuitive, personal communication between human & machine.

In the event of an impact, the module collapses into itself, preventing intrusion into the driver’s body.

THEME DEVELOPMENT

Vespas embody a sense of naughty innocence. Playing on this theme,seat form development takes inspiration from both the 'innocent' nun's habit (top half) and the 'sinner's' apple (bottom half): a symbol used throughout vintage Vespa ads.

BIKE NATION

Designed and developed the Bike Nation Bikeshare Kiosks, the official bikeshare company of Los Angeles.

Bike Nation Bikes were also inspired by the Conscious Commuter E-bike.

FERRARI 604

A design study on bringing a minimalist barchetta back into the Ferrari family.

MODULAR MULTISPACE (M3)

The Modular MultiSpace combines the vehicle, office space and living room functions into a mobile anti-congestion solution.

Inspired by Archigram plug-in capsules, it provides a productive space when parked in your apartment or office, while addressing your daily commuting needs as a ZEV commuter.

From the outset, the M3 is designed to play with the classic automotive ‘1,2,3’ read: 1 being overall form, 2 being character lines and 3 details.

The design objective was to remix the 1,2,3 read: taking inspiration from the proportions of 1920’s era Formula 1 cars and the ship in a bottle, the most prominent design aspects of the vehicle pertain to the interior proportions, rendering the overall silhouette virtually invisible.
